Champion

Status: Closed and demolished
Address: 57 Essex Street, N1 (streetmap) (osm) (gmap) (bingmap) (streetview)
Note: The location on these maps is approximate.
London borough: Hackney
Former address: [now Shenfield Street]
[also listed as 55 Essex Street (1861) and 56 Essex Street (1856)]
Historical parish: Shoreditch
Dates open: by 1822-at least 1869
Notes: Location on the map is a guess. On the 1871 census return, the "Coopers' Arms" at nearby 32 Huntingdon St (see separate entry) is named as the "Champion" with the same proprietor as this beer house at 57 Essex St had in 1851 (William Davis), so the licence may perhaps have been transferred to that pub (or it may be an error on the census).
