[Public house?]

Status: Closed and demolished
Address: 17 Avonmouth Street, SE1 (streetmap) (osm) (gmap) (bingmap) (streetview)
London borough: Southwark
Former address: 17 Devonshire Street (1899)
4 Devonshire Street (1871)
Historical parish: Newington
Dates open: [1856]-[1921]
Notes: This street no longer exists (except to the west). Marked as a public house on the 1876 Ordnance Survey map, but appears as a "grocer" in the 1869 directory and 1881/1891 census returns and as a shop in the 1851/1861/1871 census returns. Indeed it's only a "beer retailer" in the 1856 Post Office directory until 1899, so it may not have always have been a beer house or pub, and may have been more of an off licence.
